Do you suffer from spring allergies? Spring allergies are usually caused by an overreaction of the immune system to pollen and other airborne allergens that are more prevalent during the spring season. While over-the-counter and prescription medications are commonly used to treat allergies, there are also natural remedies that may alleviate symptoms. Here are some ways to treat spring allergies naturally:
Neti Pot: A neti pot is a small pot that is used to irrigate the nasal passages with a saline solution. This flushes out allergens and reduces inflammation in the sinuses. This is great to use year round to keep sinus passages open no matter what time of year it is.
Local Raw Honey: Consuming local honey can support to desensitize your body to pollen and reduce allergy symptoms over time. By choosing raw, unprocessed honey, you will get the maximum benefits of this yummy sweetener.
Local Bee Pollen: Yes - that's right! It is a great way to support reducing the effects of allergens. Bee pollen is typically obtained from plants and flowers that are not the allergen causing plants (like grasses and grains - which are air pollinated). Bee pollen also contains all 20 (or 21) amino acids, including the nine essential amino acids that the body cannot produce on its own and must obtain from food. In addition to amino acids, bee pollen also contains vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and other beneficial compounds.
Quercetin: Quercetin is a natural plant pigment that can support to stabilize mast cells, which are involved in allergic reactions. Foods that are high in quercetin include apples, berries, onions, and kale.
Vitamin C: Vitamin C is a natural antihistamine that can reduce inflammation and relieve allergy symptoms. Foods that are high in vitamin C include citrus fruits, bell peppers, and strawberries. If you feel that you may not be getting enough Vitamin C, I have a supplement I love that I'd highly recommend. Click HERE, create an account and search for Perque Potent C Guard Powder - you'll receive 10% off on your order.
Essential Oils: Essential oils such as eucalyptus, peppermint, and lavender can help to open up the airways and reduce congestion. These oils can be diffused or applied topically; be sure to dilute them properly.
Probiotics: Probiotics may improve gut health, which can in turn support a healthy immune system. Look for probiotic-rich foods such as dairy free kefir, kombucha, and fermented vegetables. If you'd prefer a supplement, I highly recommend Innate Response Flora 20-14 and Microbiome Labs Megasporebiotics. You can use the same link above, create an account and you'll receive 10% off your order.
Nettle leaf: Nettle leaf is a natural antihistamine that can reduce the amount of histamine produced in the body, which can help alleviate allergy symptoms.
It's important to remember that natural remedies may not be effective for everyone and that it's always a good idea to consult with a healthcare professional before trying any new treatments.
